With one click, Mac users can download the cloud-connected, always-up-to-date version of the Office suite—including full installs of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and OneDrive.
If you don't want to buy a subscription, the latest version of Office for Mac is Office Home & Student 2019 (£119.99/US$149.99) or Office Home & Business 2019 (£249.99/$249.99). Starting with the 16.17 release in September 2018, these release notes also apply to Office 2019 for Mac, which is a version of Office for Mac that’s available as a one-time purchase from a retail store or through a volume licensing agreement. 'Microsoft Office will also see a new perpetual release for both Windows and Mac, in the second half of 2021,' said Microsoft in a blog post announcing the next version of its Exchange server. Open an Office app such as Word, then on the top menu, click Help Check for Updates. If you don't see Check for Updates, run the latest version of Microsoft AutoUpdate tool, then check for updates again.

Office for Mac that comes with a Microsoft 365 subscription is updated on a regular basis to provide new features, security updates, and non-security updates. The following information is primarily intended for IT professionals who are deploying Office for Mac to the users in their organizations.
